Lymm 43 Burnage 6

LYMM returned to third place in RFU National League Three North after cruising to victory over already-relegated Burnage.

The hosts ran in six tries, showing their superior skill against a visiting side that has struggled to cope with the loss of key players this season.

Lymm started quickly, unhindered by wet and windy conditions, and Richard Halford crossed for the game’s first try, converted by Tom Shard.

Burnage responded with a penalty, but Tom Bray then charged down a kick to score his side’s second try, converted again by Shard.

Both sides swapped penalties to make the half-time score 17-6, but Lymm cantered away in the second period.

Another kick was charged down by Shard, who then fed Adam Bray to crash over near the sticks before adding his third conversion.

Aaron Rasheed returned a drop-out with interest to score a bonus-point try in the left corner.

Cormac Nolan planted down Mark Dixon’s kick before Dixon himself finished off a superb passing move to complete the perfect preparation for this weekend’s trip to Hull.

Lymm: Widdrington, White, Horton, Baldwin, Williams, Rasheed, Harper, Adam Bray, Shard, Tom Bray, Nolan, Halford, Harris, Owen, Dixon. Replacements: Auden, Makin, Baker.

Preston Grasshoppers 2nd 36 Lymm 2nd 3

A YOUNG Lymm side proved no match for experience as they fell to a heavy defeat against Preston Grasshoppers.

They started well, and dominated territory, but all they had to show for it was a Richie McEvoy penalty before four quick tries ahead of the interval put the game out of their reach.

Lymm: O’Callaghan, Jennings, Ashton, N Johnson, Yates, Hill, Long, Thornton, J Johnson, Lancaster, Hickman, Plumb, McEvoy, Forrest, Lester. Replacements: Rogers, Smith.
