Crewe and Nantwich Seconds 22 Warrington Seconds 17
WARRINGTON Seconds came up agonisingly short in a hard-fought game against Crewe and Nantwich Seconds.
The visitors took the lead when Craig Byrne finished off an excellent move to cross in the corner, but the hosts’ pack showed their strength with two driving tries to give them a seven-point lead.
Matt Rockey cut the deficit to just two before the break when he ghosted through to score, but a breakaway effort just after half-time saw Crewe re-establish their lead.
However, Warrington weren’t going down without a fight and Josh Downes forced his way over from close range, with Shaun McDermott’s conversion levelling the scores.
This made Crewe ramp up the pressure and they eventually crashed over for the winning score despite some excellent Warrington defence.
The team are on the road again this weekend as they face Burnage Seconds.
