Lymm 25 Huddersfield 13

LYMM further cemented third spot in National League Three North with a win made possible thanks to ground staff and volunteers enabling the Crouchley Lane pitch to pass its morning inspection.

Not one of Lymm’s better days, but a good victory nevertheless against a team fighting for survival.

In the past Lymm might have folded, but this young side is now more resolute.

After a scrappy start Lymm, who visit Cleckheaton this Saturday, woke up and improving centre Richard Halford sold an outrageous ‘show and go’ and galloped over from halfway for a try.

Five minutes later the forwards and backs combined with precision and pace for Halford to put Richard McEvoy over in the corner for 12-0.

Lymm became complacent, tried to play a little too much rugby, which led to Huddersfield taking a 13-12 lead.

The half finished with a Lymm penalty goal, but Huddersfield were on top and sensing the opportunity for vital points in their relegation fight.

Neither side seemed able to hold onto the ball for any length of time as the second period meandered along.

After 20 minutes, Lymm got a penalty which they opted to kick at goal, which summed up the state the game had reached.

In the final ten minutes Lymm exerted a bit of pressure on the Huddersfield line and from a series of well controlled drives McEvoy found himself in position to drop over the line.

Lymm sensed the opportunity to push for the bonus point but it was not to be.
