Macclesfield 3rd 18  Warrington 2nd 58

WARRINGTON seconds remain on track for a top-three finish after putting 58 points on Macclesfield on Saturday.

“This game produced some of the best rugby we have played all season, with excellent individual performances from the likes of Haydn Fraser and Shaun Yoxhall," said player-coach Paul Thompson, who claimed four strikes against the head.

His side sit fourth in the table.

Fraser drifted over in the corner inside two minutes, and Macclesfield replied with a penalty before winger Matt Grimshaw scored his first try for Warrington.

The hosts cut the deficit with another three-pointer, but Craig Byrne again stepped up by shrugging off three tackles to touch down between the sticks. Shaun McDermott converted.

Macclesfield's forwards enjoyed a rare moment on top to close to within four points, but Fraser added his second to re-establish Warrington's lead.

Tries flowed in the second half with Keiron Hughes and Gary Jackman both grabbing doubles, Fraser completing his hat-trick and Josh Downes also touching down.

Chester 3rd 12 Warrington 3rd 19

SIXTH-placed Warrington kept alive their hopes of a top-four finish by beating their Chester counterparts.

Max Caldwell had gone close before Tom Hockenhull sent Tony Fretwell in.

Darren Norman converted.

Chester replied, but Tom Green strode through a gap for a converted try.

The hosts narrowed the gap again in the second period, but Norman's individual effort from his own half ensured the win was Warrington's.

“A good all-round performance,” reflected coach Lea Graham afterwards.

“However, we must improve our finishing if we are to maximize our excellent approach work.”

Moore 14 Congleton 0

IT took a second-half showing from Moore to break down Congleton but tries for Akanmu and Johnston, both converted by the latter, did the trick for the hosts.
