Lymm 34 Rossendale 0

LYMM put some daylight between themselves and Rossendale on the National League Three North table courtesy of Saturday’s success.

The sixth-placed side are now six points clear of next team Rossendale, with this victory giving Lymm incentive of climbing higher and securing the club’s highest ever league position.

It is no mean feat to ‘nil’ a very good Rossendale side, who paraded a number of new signings including a Namibian international scrum half.

This was a great Lymm team performance of great commitment and skill, superbly led by captain Adam Bray.

Credit must go to Adam Fletcher and his coaching team, who have evolved the side and developed strength in the squad with former colts now firmly established and contributing each week.

Rossendale started brightly but made little progress against a solid Lymm defence.

For 30 minutes of the first half Lymm played one of the most dominant and controlled spells of rugby seen for some time.

Baldwin went over after close quarter work, with McEvoy adding the extras. After several good phases McEvoy crossed for 14-0.

Rasheed touched down after several drives to the line, with McEvoy again converting.

McEvoy, having a field day, produced a great individual try that secured the bonus-point victory before the intervaal and the only scores in the second period were his two penalties in a 24-point personal haul.

On Saturday, Lymm travel to Firwood Waterloo, who suffered a 80-12 defeat at runaway league leaders Sheffield Tigers last time out.
