EAGLE claimed a derby success over visitors Moore on Saturday, finishing strongly to win 42-34.

The hosts started brightly through tight work up front, scoring the first try following a barn-storming run by Ashley Losh.

Minutes later skipper Jason Jackson slotted a penalty to make it an early 8-0 lead.

Moore, with the excellent boot of fly half Lewis Johnston, started to gain territory and scored through David Dixon soon after.

Twenty minutes in, Ryan Acton made a double change which saw the 6’ 3” pairing of Ryan Losh and Shaun Leigh enter the fray.

A speculative kick from Jackson saw the ball land kindly into the hands of Owen McInroy, who scored between the sticks.

Moore scored the final try of the half after a break down the right.

A good tackle came in from JP Ainsworth and the ball appeared to be thrown forwards out of the tackle but the try was allowed to stand.

Their number eight was first to cross the whitewash in the second half, but debutant Conor Adams struck back with a fine finish down the right.

Eagle found themselves 11 points down after a converted try and a penalty for the visitors.

Quick thinking from Jackson saw him take a tap penalty to catch the Moore defence cold, and Mcinroy scored his second of the afternoon.

Ill discipline around the ruck once again saw the Moore number 10 take full advantage to send the visitors into a seven-point lead with just 10 minutes remaining.

But it was Moore holding a seven-point lead with 10 minutes to go.

Following wave after wave of Eagle possession, they conceded a penalty five metres out and from the scrum James Tickle crossed the line but was not converted.

From the kick-off Eagle charged once more down field and their opponents conceded in front of the sticks, allowing Jackson's kick to establish a one-point lead with just two minutes remaining.

In an effort to just secure the ball and see out the game, Eagle once more marched downfield, and a trademark burst from centre JP Ainsworth took him between the sticks to deny Moore a losing bonus point.

Man of the match was Ryan Losh who started from the bench but was a real thorn in the side of the visitors with his aggression in attack and in defence.

Next week Eagle take their first of two trips to the Isle of Man as they take on Ramsey RUFC.
