UNPRECEDENTED success could reach even greater heights this weekend when Lymm Rugby Club's colts teams aim to do the 'double double'.

Both under 19s and 17s sides won their respective regional colts league cup finals on Sunday - a season's achievement not managed before in the north west.

And now this Sunday they feature in respective Cheshire Cup finals on home turf, with the junior colts facing Caldy at 3pm and the under 19s tackling Altrincham Kersal at 4.30pm at Crouchley Lane.

The mood in the teams could not be higher on the back of the seniors defeating Vale of Lune 17-0 in the weekend's showdown at Beechwood, while the 17s ended Glossop's cup hopes 43-5 at Eccles.

Earlier this season, Lymm's older boys enjoyed two close encounters with Vale of Lune but were immediately on the front foot.

An attacking line-out and a trademark driving maul led to the first try on five minutes, with Oscar McCormack barrelling over.

After a period of Vale ascendency Lymm returned to the visitors' 22 and a patient passage resulted in Will Baldwin scoring in the corner.

With Vale ending the half pounding the Lymm defence, which was outstanding throughout, the 10-0 interval score needed improvement to secure the result.

An inside ball to galloping Ben Wass and an offload in the tackle allowed Tim Downes to sprint in from 15 metres to seal it with 15 minutes remaining.

Lymm: Alex Kitching, Rob Makin, Oscar McCormack, Matt Hill, Will Baldwin, Ben Wardner, Nat Johnstone, Alex Nolan, Tim Downes, Rex Atkins, John Leight, Alex Mansfield-Hickman, Liam Eakins, Will Boyle, Joe Denman. Subs: Ged McDonnell, Jamie Loughridge, Sam Butler, Ollie Thornton, Ben Wass, Will Leach, Alex Mitchell.

Although the early exchanges were fierce for Lymm's under 17s against Glossop, a 19-0 interval cushion was established courtesy of tries from Paddy Jennings sprinting in from halfway, Drew Fray and Josh Nolan.

Glossop’s second-half resurgence was well resisted by Lymm who conceded only once while adding tries through Alistair Wealthall, Dan Masnyk, Fray and Wealthall.

Lymm: George Fingleton, David Holden, Adam Griffiths, Drew Fray, Josh Nolan, Joe Rogers, Alex McMahon, Paddy Jennings, Toby Phillips, Chris Twigg, Alistair Wealthall, Nathan Lyon, Matt Walker, Henry Simpson, Dan Masnyk. Subs: Varun Maharaj, Tom Wood, Evan Fray, Will Oliver.

To cap a fine day for the club, Lymm's under nines returned home as Cheshire Champions, having won their Cheshire Festival earlier in the day.
