Lymm u19 22 Altrincham Kersal u19 6

CHAMPIONS Lymm senior colts kept alive hopes of four trophies with Sunday's win against their arch-rivals.

The battle of Cheshire's two best teams, with Kersal chasing their own cup treble, swayed Lymm's way in the second period to progress to Sunday's showdown with Vale of Lune as top billing in the Senior Colts League Cup Finals Day at Lymm, kick off 3.30pm.

Lymm knew they were in for a match when, from the kick off, AK broke away and only great scampering defence saved a score.

The Raging Bull North West Colts League table toppers had slightly the better of the first 20 minutes, but the match was very tight.

Eventually Lymm's forwards gained some momentum and mounted a sustained assault on the AK line.

The ball was driven over but called 'held up' three times.

However, Lymm showed remarkable maturity to stay patient until finally the maul worked perfectly for captain Alex Nolan to score.

Kersal replied with a penalty and Lymm's next try showed the other side of their game when, from broken play, flyer John Leight showed his pace to go over in the corner.

A penalty for not releasing gave AK another three points and kept the game wide open at half time at 10-6.

The score did not flatter Lymm and the half-time talk was pretty simple - more of the same but up a notch.

With the moderate wind now behind them, Lymm started to impose themselves.

Although AK put some very good moves and drives together and kicked well, Lymm's defence was superb and the play was now mostly in the opponents' half.

The pressure finally told when a trademark bullocking run from prop Oscar McCormack popping up in open field resulted in a fine try converted by Joe Denman.

Not long after, a nice backs move was rounded off by Alex Mansfield-Hickman to put the game to bed.
