Burnage 17 Lymm 29

LYMM put an end to their poor run of form and got their season back on track with a win at Burnage in National League Three North on Saturday.

It looked like Lymm were going to stretch their losing run to seven games when a string of errors saw them go 5-0 down almost immediately.

But they came back and a period of sustained multi-phase play resulted in a penalty 25 metres out.

Cormac Nolan hit the post but from the Burnage clearance another penalty was given and this time Nolan was on target.

Lymm took the lead when Tom Bray opened up the Burnage defence and slipped a pass to Nolan on the wing. His inside ball to full back Joe Knowles was well-timed and Knowles finished the attack with great pace.

Lymm’s reprieve was temporary though with Burnage scoring another try from a maul to level things up, before the visitors regained the advantage just before the break with a penalty conversion.

The second half started with Burnage continuing to look dangerous but Lymm increased their lead with another penalty, which was followed by two more after the hosts seemed to lose their discipline.

Burnage staged a brief rally with a converted try bringing them back in touch with Lymm leading 22-17.

Determined not to let the lead slip as in previous weeks, Lymm kicked on and scored their second try of the day through Rich McEvoy.

The away side held strong to keep out a late flurry of attacks from Burnage and keep their advantage in tact until the final whistle.

With the losing streak finally at an end, Lymm will look to build some momentum when they host Sheffield Tigers on Saturday, kick off 2.15pm.

Lymm: Auden, Bray, Widdrington, Kahui, Darbyshire, Williams, White, Ashall, Shard, Bray, Rowley, Emmitt, Halford, Nolan, Knowles. Subs: McEvoy, Baker, McGuinness.
