Caldy 3rd 26 Warrington 2nd 34

WARRINGTON’S second string extended a winning streak in the North West Intermediate League’s Division One on Saturday.

They scored first when Tony Fretwell picked up a loose Caldy pass on the floor and flicked the ball up for Nathan Beasley to run in from 60 yards. Ben Hockenhull’s conversion was simple.

Caldy replied with a penalty, but Warrington increased their lead through Andy Almond with Hockenhull adding the extras.

The teams then traded penalties, Caldy adding another before half time.

The hosts used their forward muscle to pick up the first try, converted, of the second period to close to within a point.

But Warrington replied when Beasley picked up a searching cross-field kick from Luke Wood and touched down for a second time with Hockenhull on target with the boot.

Caldy came back with a pushover try, but their guests scored again when Gary Jackman went over.

Caldy notched another pushover try, but Hockenhull settled the outcome in his side’s favour when he dummied his way through.

Warrington 3rd 6 Bowdon 2nd 6

WARRINGTON thirds were knocked off top spot in Division Two South on Saturday when they shared the spoils with Bowdon in a scrappy affair.

Neither side could find a way to the try line thanks to a combination of rugged defence and error-strewn attack.
