Warrington 21 Penrith 14

WARRINGTON put in one of their best performances of the season on Saturday, according to head coach Darren Abrams when they beat Penrith.

Warrington produced an excellent first 40 minutes and held off a strong late challenge from Penrith to gain a victory in North One West.

The home side began at full speed and three first-half tries from Sean Hughes, Zak Lythgoe and Steve Pilkington against Penrith’s two converted penalties gave them a comfortable 21-6 lead at half time.

Penrith came back strong in the second half and managed to keep Warrington out while scoring a try and penalty at the other end.

Warrington were on the back foot towards the end of the match but despite hanging on for the win, head coach Abrams has heaped praise on his side’s efforts.

“Apart from some poor handling, this was one of our best performances of the season,” said Abram.

“We competed for possession in all departments and we patiently played through our phases to set up scoring opportunities.

“We also showed that we can defend when Penrith played some good rugby in the second half.”
