THE man who set Richard Egington on the path to Olympic glory is the Warrington Sports Personality Coach of 2008.

Egington, who helped the rowing men’s eight to a silver medal in Beijing last summer, started out under the guidance of Richard Sinnott – the Warrington Rowing Club chairman who has also steered Sports Personality winner Olivia Oakes to elite level.

Highly-respected Sinnott said: “I’m absolutely delighted. It’s lovely to receive some accolade from the town.”

And the 48-year-old from Appleton is confident that there are more stars like Egington and Oakes on their way at the Kingsway-based club.

“This year we’ll try to move on again but how do you move on from an Olympics silver medal, World Championships and Youth Olympics.

“That’s fantasy league but we’ve got a lot going on and it’s about consolidation this year.

“We’ve got some interesting prospects coming through, with one or two showing signs of copying what Olivia has done and I think there are one or two who will be making headlines in a year or two.”

The founder of the club took crews from Warrington to the prestigious Henley and Charles River (Boston) Regattas for the first time during 2008.
