Welcome to the homepage of Warrington Sports Personality awards.

ROWING queen Olivia Oakes is the Warrington Sports Personality of 2008. The 18-year-old from Grappenhall was crowned at the prestigious awards night staged at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Friday, January 30.

Five other winners were also revealed, with Ben Westwood being crowned the Wolves Player of 2008 champion and Bank Quay Bulls amateur rugby league team winning the team award.

Endurance racer, coach and fundraiser Brian New collected the unsung hero award, with Warriors of Warrington Swimming Club collecting the club honour and Richard Sinnott being honoured in the coach of the year category.

The event, organised by Warrington Guardian and sponsored by World of Beds with the awards night supported by Freestyle Kitchens and Bathrooms, has been recognising outstanding sporting achievers for 16 years and the 2008 success stories were across a wide range of fields are among the best.

Usual Newsquest rules apply, see our website for details. All entrants must fit into the criteria as specified in their category. Nominees must either live in Warrington or compete for a Warrington club or school. All category winners will be decided by an independent panel of judges, with the Wolves player of the year decided by the public vote. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence may be entered into.
