Warrington Young Sports Personality of 2002 - Matthew Pitt

RUGBY League and work are a labour of love for Matthew Pitt.

He works 10-hour days as a labourer and then gets on with his rugby training.

It works for him because this year he won Warrington Wolves' under 17s player of the year award.

The 17-year-old from Old Hall impressed so much that he was moved into the u18s Academy team before the end of the season.

This success followed winning the player of the year and players' player of the year awards for the third successive time for Crosfields u16s earlier in the year.

His strength on the rugby field lies in his defence. Matthew was the top tackler in each of the u17s games played in the pilot Academy League.

He remains on course to fulfil the ambition he has held since he was aged 12, which is to play first team rugby for Warrington Wolves.

Matthew is totally professional in his approach - never misses training, puts 100 per cent into his training and fitness, eats and drinks only the foods he has been told to.
