The 10th Anniversary Award - Nicola Hey

AN international karate fighter and coach who trained at Cheshire Martial Arts made history in 1997.
Nicola Hey became the first woman to win Warrington Sports Personality's top award.
The Fearnhead 19-year-old was No.1 fighter in England at under 21 level while her other 1997 achievements were third British under 21 in kumite (fighting), third British over 21 kumite, second V.S.O under 21 kumite and third V.S.O in Kata, which is the dressage' of karate.
Third Dan black belt Nicola was a member of the Shukokai Karate Union, the England Elite squad and the England SKU squad.
She taught children at the club four times a week, travelled to Halifax once a month for SKU squad training and to Loughborough one weekend in every month for England Elite training.
Nicola was made female coach for the under 16s SKU England squad.
