HOLLY McMullen has achieved a remarkable golden hat-trick for the 2010 season.

She won the British Rowing Championships double sculls 15-years category with partner Claudia Wright in Scotland at the weekend.

It capped off an excellent campaign, preceded by gold medals at the Inter-Regional Regatta and the National Schools Regatta for a rare triple crown achievement.

McMullen won the WJ14 single sculls at the Inter-regional Regatta in April and, in partnership with Wright, the WJ15 double sculls at the National Schools event in May.

Warrington Rowing Club chairman Richard Sinnott said: “Holly has shown unstinting dedication to learning and improving and this summer we have seen the results both as an individual and as a crew rower with Claudia.

“When you consider Holly is also the reigning British indoor rowing champion for her age group you can begin appreciate what a high-performance athlete she is and how pleased Warrington Rowing Club feels to have her competing in our colours.”

McMullen and Wright came through the qualifying series as the fastest boat but the final was a closely contested affair over the 2,000m course on Strathclyde Loch.

They demonstrated their maturity and led the race from start to finish with enough control to hold off a late challenge from Norwich.

In the WJ16 quadruple sculls, the Warrington crew of Beth Laidlaw, Frankie Sinnott, Fae Atkinson and Ellen Thomas took the bronze medal.

Warrington resident Luke Ozsanlav-Harris, competing for Northwich’s Grange School, claimed a silver medal in the MJ14 single scull contest.
