Third time’s a charm?

MAYBE Mike Heverin can help to bring Warrington Town their first goal of 2013.

The Yellows, who have blanked on consecutive outings for the third time this season, have signed the 6ft 2ins striker for a third time.

He is the latest of several attacking options brought in since November, with Ciaran Kilheeney having arrived from Chorley while Jimmy McCarthy and Mark Beesley have figured on loan.

Heverin proved to be prolific after signing from Runcorn Linnets in 2000 and again upon his return from coaching in America before he headed west to play for Wrexham-based NEWI Cefn Druids in the League of Wales in December, 2005.

But after recently returning to the area, the 33-year-old was back in a yellow shirt at the weekend in a 1-0 home defeat to Evo-Stik First Division North title favourites Skelmersdale United.

Heverin will be disappointed that he blasted a brilliant chance for a late equaliser over the crossbar from close range, on a day when midfielder Fraser McLauchlan made his Yellows debut after signing from Nantwich Town.

Manager Shaun Reid will be hoping the fresh faces bring better fortune on Saturday at Lancaster City, a side one place below Town in the ladder but in form in front of the nets with at least two goals scored on each of their last five outings.

Town have now gone a month without a win and as a result have slipped to 10th in the table having played the highest number of games of any team in the division.

Their latest loss was sealed when Skem’s Mark Jackson rifled home a loose ball from close range in the 75th minute.

Town: Robertson, Davies, Doran, Dogan (c), Mitter, McCarten, McCarthy (Mooney, 55), Fraser McLachlan (Townson, 78), C Kilheeney, Mike Heverin, Ruane (Miles, 40).

Warrington have parted company with defender John Hardiker, who has decided to join Connah’s Quay in the Welsh League.

Hardiker, aged 30, had agreed to join Warrington from Northwich Victoria where he was captain, but has decided to move on without making an appearance for the club due to illness and postponements.
