RYLANDS held out for a draw in their Cheshire Alliance Division One clash with Chelford on Saturday.
A superb partnership by Chelford’s opening batsmen, who made 101 and 57, made life hard for the Rylands attack but their persistence paid off with three quick wickets as the visitors closed on 208 for 3.
In reply, Rylands lost early wickets but some huge sixes from Sean Malone, 50, supported by Eddie Platt, 35, put Rylands in a good position to win.
When they were both dismissed, the game appeared over and Rylands’ last pair had to block out to force a draw, ending on 177 for 9.
The second team made the opposite journey to Chelford and some fiery pace bowling from Sujith, 5 for 43, and Kenny Jarvis, 4 for 44, reduced Chelford to 92 all out in the Division Four clash.
Rylands soon polished off the runs as Sean Peters, 44 not out, and Geoff Shaw, 34 not out, saw Rylands reach the target for the loss of one wicket to gain a much-needed victory and move away from the danger zone.
On Saturday the first XI entertain Disley and the second XI travel to Frodsham.
