APPLETON’s first XI drew with Stalybridge in Cheshire Cricket Alliance Division One.

Stalybridge scored 189 all out, with McClelland taking 6 for 45.

Appleton closed agonisingly short on 183 for 8 with A Hurst making 65 and D Hurst 57.

A strong performance from Appleton Women against defending league champions Chester was not quite enough as they lost by 41 runs.

Annie Rashid starred with the ball, taking 3 for 17 as Chester were restricted to 149 for 7 from their 40 overs.

Amy Page, 30, and Rashid, 16 not out, kept Appleton scoring but they ran out of overs with the score on 108.
