A day to remember for St Oswalds sevens team

ST Oswalds Catholic Primary School triumphed in the final of the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service Challenge Cup seven-a-side competition despite a valiant effort from St Benedicts Catholic Primary School.

Both schools were inspired by a pre-match team talk from Warrington Wolves and England coach Tony Smith and the BBC’s Super League Show also filmed the build-up to the final, which was staged at The Halliwell Jones Stadium prior to the Super League game between Wolves and Hull FC.

St Oswalds won by four tries to two and representatives from Cheshire Fire Service and Wolves’ charity arm, the Wolves Foundation, presented St Oswalds with the trophy and the runners-up with their mementos.

Adam Jude, coach of St Oswalds, said: “Such was the magnitude of the event with the speech by Tony Smith, the Fire Service guard of honour, the presentation and lap of honour at half time, that all the families, friends, teachers and St Oswalds team members will remember that day for the rest of their lives.”
