Cristiano Ronaldo passed 300 LaLiga goals as Real Madrid claimed a 3-1 win over local rivals Getafe at the Bernabeu.

Gareth Bale gave Madrid a 24th-minute lead before Ronaldo took centre-stage as Zinedine Zidane’s men bounced back from their last-gasp loss to Espanyol in midweek.

The Portugal star made it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time with a low finish and in the process became only the second player after Lionel Messi to score 300 LaLiga goals.

There had been some debate as to whether Ronaldo had reached the milestone when scoring twice during last week’s win over Alaves, but his place in the record books is assured either way now after netting another brace on Saturday in only his 286th league appearance.

He headed home his second of the night in the 78th minute to wrap up the win, after 10-man Getafe – who had Loic Remy sent off in the 47th minute – had pulled a goal back through Francisco Portillo’s penalty.

The result sees Real move to within seven points of second-placed Atletico Madrid, who face leaders Barcelona on Sunday, and sets them up for Tuesday’s Champions League last-16 second leg with Paris St Germain.

Also in LaLiga on Saturday, Sevilla boosted their chances of playing Champions League football next season by beating Athletic Bilbao 2-0.

Luis Muriel and Franco Vazquez scored within five minutes of each other in the first half to secure a win that moved Sevilla to within five points of fourth-placed Valencia.

Girona are one point behind fellow Europa League hopefuls Villarreal in sixth after an impressive 2-0 victory over the Yellow Submarine at Estadio de la Ceramica.

Uruguay striker Cristhian Stuani opened the scoring with a superb header after 15 minutes and Honduran forward Anthony Lozano – a 71st-minute replacement for Stuani – made the points safe 10 minutes from time with a brilliant strike.

At the Riazor, both goalkeepers played crucial roles as Deportivo La Coruna and Eibar drew 1-1.

Deportivo keeper Maksym Koval came rushing out of his goal and was left in no man’s land as Takashi Inui fired Fabian Orellana’s cross into an open net to give Eibar an 11th-minute lead.

At the other end, Eibar keeper Marko Dmitrovic was credited with an own goal after Florin Andone’s 33rd-minute header came off the post, hit Dmitrovic and ended up in the back of the net to give Deportivo their equaliser.

Koval’s night got worse as he became the first goalkeeper to be sent off on his LaLiga debut in the 21st century after rushing out of his goal and bringing down Joan Jordan.

Even with the extra man, Eibar could not find the winner.

Two goals in seven second-half minutes from Javier Eraso and Nordin Amrabat earned Leganes the points as they beat Malaga 2-0.
