ACTION on Lymm Angling Club waters is improving week by week as overnight frosts appear to be waning, or at least less severe.

This obviously allows water temperatures to become more stabilised, a situation that fish prefer and tends to spur them to feed more enthusiastically.

This situation was demonstrated and enjoyed by two new members on Belmont Pool last week.

Young Jeff Mowbray landed eight carp at very close range, with his biggest weighing in at 17lbs 10ozs 0drms.

In a follow-up session just days later he even bettered this haul by landing 10 carp, this time up to 18-9-0.

Craig Deacon, another young angler, has already demonstrated his angling prowess on a number of occasions and added to his tally of fish by landing two nice carp in succession within a short session at the weekend.

It will come as no surprise that this session took place, again, on Belmont Pool.

Both Jeff and Craig were very grateful for the opportunity to earn their overstamps by attending the work parties.

I strongly advise members to inspect the work done during this year's work parties. The work has been done to the highest standards with Whitley and Village Pools particularly benefiting.

This summer the club is running an offer to all adult members (aged 18 and over), concurrently with the school summer holidays.

It will enable members to take a son, daughter, niece, nephew, grandchild, young brother or sister fishing free of charge.

Such members may take one child at a time to the following waters: Norcott Pool, Willow Pool, Farm Pool, Bate Mill (including Golden Pond), Shakerley Mere and Lymmvale Stockpond.

The offer relates to daytime fishing only but at the time of year the days are very long and offer an opportunity for a short session even after work or the daily chores.

Hopefully, this will give an indication as to whether your young relative has an aptitude to fishing or not.

Many members have pointed out that they have paid for a youngster's membership and discovered that they only went once and found it was not for them.

While this offer is free from the club, if you do take advantage of it please check to see if a rod licence is required. It will be dependant on the Environment Agency's regulations.

Unfortunately, I am ending this column on a negative topic which ended in a very positive action.

The club's procedures identified a member who had defecated on land controlled by the club, leaving a foul mess for someone else to clean up.

Once identified, the culprit was summarily expelled from the club and our actions were reported to all other bona fide north west clubs.

I can be contacted on 411774 or 07810 254402 but be prepared to leave a message.
