Crosfields 24 Hunslet Warriors 10

DESPITE racking up their sixth straight win, Ian Boden insists his Crosfields side have much to improve upon.

Saturday’s win over struggling Hunslet Warriors at Hood Lane allowed Soap to rise to third in the National Conference League Division Two table.

Nathan Taylor and Tom Brown both scored twice for the hosts, with Brad Stanway adding four goals.

Boden insists, however, that things could and perhaps should have been more straightforward for his side.

“We made it hard for ourselves,” he said.

“Our discipline and possession slipped too easily, but a win’s a win.

“Our completion rate was poor and we will improve on it by next week.

“Hunslet’s performance makes a mockery of their league position. It will be a tough trip to their ground later in the season.”

Soap got off to a decent start, with Taylor opening the scoring inside eight minutes.

Brown added his name to the scoresheet midway through the first half as Crosfields took control, with Stanway adding conversions to both tries.

Daryl Gaunt’s try cut the gap to six points at half time, but Brown’s second try early in the second half allowed Soap to keep their visitors at arm’s length.

The Warriors kept pace with a David Norton effort, but a Stanway penalty with 15 minutes left calmed any nerves before Taylor doubled his tally to seal the victory.

Soap make the short trip to bottom side Leigh East on Saturday, kick off 1pm.
