GRACIE Barra Warrington students have done it again.

When four martial-artists from the Evans House club won gold medals in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Junior National Gi and No Gi Championships last month, coach Graeme Finneran said: “We are building something special here!”

It certainly seems that way with Callum Grassby, Benjamin Finneran, Brad McDonough and Marcus Runcis being joined by Theos McEvatt in enjoying further success for the club at the British Open Brazilian Jiujitsu Championships in Coventry, which sets them up nicely for shots at the world championships in July.

The Warrington five competed in separate divisions in Coventry in a competition in which children from all over Europe travel to take part.

Benjamin Finneran, junior coach of Gracie Barra Warrington, forced a submission from all but one of his opponents on the way to winning gold and being crowned British champion in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for his weight, aged 9.

Also achieving golden crowning glory were McDonough, 9, Runcis, 8, and Grassby, 14, while McEvatt took silver in a gruelling division in which he won all fights except his last one.
