MEG Corker broke an 18-year-old record as part of a hugely successful Cheshire Championships for Warrington AC.

Corker won one of 14 gold medals scooped by the club’s athletes in Macclesfield over the weekend and her performance in the girls’ under 15s 75m hurdles was also enough to put her top of the UK rankings.

Her heat time of 11.4secs broke the championship record set by Emma Makin – a fellow Warrington Athletics Club member – back in 2000 and she equalled that time in the final to claim gold.

In the same age group, Ashley Nemits moved further clear at the top of the 300m national rankings, and her gold medal was one of two she won as she also scooped the 200m title.

With this being the first running of the 300m at the championships, Nemits’ winning time of 41.1secs set the competition record.

Jack Green’s gold medal in the senior men’s 3000m set a new championship record time of 9mins 0.2secs, which is also Green’s personal best.

Overall, Warrington Athletics Club won 29 medals, with 60-year-old Dave Gill winning the senior men’s triple jump and Elizabeth Wright claiming the women’s under 20s 400m crown.

The under 17s age group was particularly fruitful, with Joe Buckley (3000m), Cameron Duff (200m), Jordan Jones and Siobhan Gregory (both 1500m steeplechase) all winning the top prize.

Tom McKean and Jadon Allen won the boys’ under 15s sprint distances – winning the 200m and 100m respectively – while Seren Morris won the girls’ shot in the same age group.

Dominiks Norviss was the other Warrington athlete to claim gold, winning the boys’ under 13s high jump title.

Eleanor Hough came away with two sprint silver medals in the under 20s 100m and 200m races, while Erik Marshall did the same in the under 13s age group, coming second in both the 800m and 1500m.
