WARRINGTON-BASED Heys Karate Academy is hoping to get schools around the town involved in a karate tournament.

The academy, based on Milner Street, is running schools competitions in Salford and Halton starting in September and is aiming to do the same in Warrington.

The tournaments will be in the kata (non-fighting) category and children would be taught the basics before coming together to compete.

Commonwealth Games medallist Michelle Williams is a partner at the club and says: “We at Heys Karate are very excited to start this.

“Kata is finally now in the Olympics and is a great way for children to learn the sport without the contact that some parents worry about.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for schools to offer something new to students whilst being involved with a grass roots to podium adventure.”

Any schools that are interesting in getting involved should contact Nicola Hey on 07872374414 or heyskarate@hotmail.com.
