East Leeds 24 Crosfields 10

JIMMY Williams knows Crosfields need to improve quickly if they are to get their season off the ground.

Saturday’s defeat at East Leeds made it back-to-back losses for Soap, who were missing five regular starters for the trip to Yorkshire.

Hayden James’ late double was in vain for the Hood Lane side, who sit third from bottom of National Conference League Division Two.

“There are some positives from the game and I was pleased with the effort,” Williams said.

“However, we know things need to improve quickly if we are going to come out of this poor spell and get some points on the board.

“We were missing a few but Alex Clutterbuck, Bailey Hartley and Liam James came in and acquitted themselves admirably.”

A slip in defence created an opening for East Leeds to open the scoring with a long-range effort before Soap conceded an equally frustrating try shortly afterwards.

Jack Reid’s kick to the corner was caught by the opposing winger, who proceeded to race the length of the field to touch down.

Another try before half time took the game away from Soap, but the visitors dug in and finished the game on the front foot.

James, who was Soap’s man of the match, crossed twice in 10 minutes but the hosts had the final say with another try against the run of play late on.

Crosfields A 24 Wigan Bulldogs 16

A SUPERB defensive display in the first half laid the platform for Crosfields A to express themselves after the break at Hood Lane.

They had to withstand waves of pressure from visitors Wigan Bulldogs at first, but their discipline meant they only conceded a single, unconverted try.

By half time, they had turned the game on its head as Danny Lee and Jordan Williams combined to send Taylor Boyne over, with Sam Hickey’s conversion sending them in 6-4 ahead.

Nathan Taylor finished off a well-worked move before his superb kick return allowed Boyne to cross for his second of the afternoon.

Mitch McJay completed Soap’s scoring after crashing over from Hickey’s inside pass and they held on for victory despite two late efforts from the visitors.
