HERE’S our look ahead to the weekend’s amateur rugby league action.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE LEAGUE

CROSFIELDS have their first league away trip on Saturday as they travel to East Leeds.

Jimmy Williams’ side will be hoping for their first win of 2018 having been beaten 33-26 by Hull Dockers in their opening fixture last time out.

“We were gutted after the Dockers game,” Williams said.

“We set our standards high, we started slow and our goal line defence was where we went wrong.

“Our go-forward was very good at times. We’re not a million miles away.”

CROSFIELDS A are also in action as they look to bounce back from defeat to neighbours Woolston Rovers A last time out.

They host Wigan Bulldogs on Saturday.

Having earned a 10-10 draw under challenging and dramatic circumstances last week, WOOLSTON ROVERS are at home on Saturday as they welcome Beverley to Sadore Construction Field.

“We don’t know too much about Beverley as they have only played one game so far and that was a 30-0 home win over Barrow Island, so we will be giving them the respect they deserve,” Rovers head coach John Fieldhouse said.

“This will be their first away game since re-joining the NCL so they will be keen to put on a good display.

“We must ensure that we are fully switched on and ready to give our all for the full 80 minutes.”

Beverley are coached by Hull FC and England prop Scott Taylor.

WOOLSTON ROVERS A are on the road on Saturday as they make the short trip to face Halton Farnworth Hornets A.

NORTH WEST MEN’S LEAGUE:

LATCHFORD ALBION play their first home game of the season on Saturday as they welcome Walney Central to Victoria Park.

They made the perfect start to their Division One campaign last weekend, recovering from Cain Hillen’s first-half red card to run out 32-6 winners at Wigan St Patricks A.

“It was a big start for the first team and the alliance came agonisingly close to securing a victory, which would have made it a perfect start to the season,” head coach Lee Smith said.

“My only request is that everyone else steps up with us.

“It would be great to have a healthy attendance for our opening home game to allow us to create a real statement of intent.”

In Division Three, BURTONWOOD BRIDGE get their campaign underway with a trip to Langworthy Reds.

The final fixture of the weekend is a ‘derby’ match as RYLANDS SHARKS take on LATCHFORD ALBION A at Gorsey Lane.

Both sides are coming off opening-day defeats, with the Sharks losing 16-12 to Littleborough and Albion were beaten 14-12 by Aspull New Spring Lions A.

All games kick off at 2.30pm.
