CASEY Brown recorded his 50th competitive win during Phoenix Fire Boxing Club’s ‘Meet Fire with Fire’ event at the Parr Hall on Saturday.

Competing in the main part of the event which featured the club’s senior boxers fighting a Dublin City team for the sixth consecutive year, he scored a unanimous decision against Adam Shelley.

Brown controlled the bout throughout, forcing a count in the second round and continually keeping his opponent under pressure with accurate shots.

Middleweight Sean Headon won with a third-round stoppage against Ralf Meniskisis.

Lightweights Bayode Olueye and Sam Watson both lost close competitive points decisions against Sean McIntee and Darragh Morgan respectively.

The Phoenix pair took a step up in class against international standard opposition and performed well in defeat.

Phoenix’s junior boxers squared up to talent from across the north west.

Tom Bennett, 15, was awarded boxer of the night for a performance that showed real maturity and class as he defeated Nadeem Khan of Premier Bolton by a unanimous decision.

Owen Dodd ,Jack Roberts and Mason Woodford all won points decisions in excellent bouts against their opponents.

Schoolboys Luke Turner and Sebastian Caisley of Impact Stoke were awarded bout of the evening for a high-class skilful meeting that Turner won by a unanimous points decision.

Head coach Damien Ridpath said: “All in all it was an excellent event with fantastic performances across the day and evening from both Phoenix and all the opposition.

“A special thank you to the group from the Warrington Irish Centre who supported the event and helped raise a significant amount of money donated to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.”
