APPLETON Cricket Club will be starting a second women’s team in 2018.

The club, based in Lyon’s Lane, are making the move after the national team’s success in the Women’s Cricket World Cup this year when India were defeated in the final at Lord’s.

“We felt the time was right to start a second team to make sure we can offer enough opportunities for women and girls in the area to play cricket regularly and to create a development pathway for girls moving into senior cricket,” said Appleton coach Jess Lewis.

England winning the Cricket World Cup this summer has been inspirational, showing girls they can enjoy playing sport and achieve great things.”

Appleton Cricket Club also has four men’s teams and a junior section.

The club welcome players of all abilities, from complete beginners to county standard.

Indoor training will start in January and move outdoors to their Lyons Lane ground from April onwards.

Anyone interested in playing can contact appletoncricket@gmail.com or visit their website appletoncc.org.uk.

Players and club officials celebrated the 2017 campaign and continued looking forward to next season at their annual awards dinner at the weekend.
