LATCHFORD Giants junior rugby league club reflected on the season's successes at their annual meeting this week.

The event, staged at Grange Sports Club, was well attended by parents, coaches and players.

A number of awards have been won, international appearances gained and signings made at the scholarships/academies of professional clubs.

At the Warrington Wolves Man Of Steel event, John Wilkinson received the Latchford Giants Community Hero Award for his work with the club's 15s team and also as the treasurer of the club.

Luke Thomas, from Latchford under 14s, and Charlie McCurrie, Latchford under 15s, were shortlisted for awards from across the town's community clubs.

Former Latchford juniors Gavin Bennion and Joe Philbin recently made their World Cup debuts for Wales and Ireland.

Under 14s star Billy Cannon signed a scholarship at Wigan, under 15s Joe Higgins a contract at Sale Sharks, while Jack Folkes and Lloyd Wright have been signed on for another year with Warrington Wolves' scholarship.

Keiran Derbyshire was nominated for North West Counties Division Two Player of the Year.

Club spokesman Matt Wilkinson said: "On the whole the night was a great achievement and it will help us keep moving forward as a club and stick to being the best club to get players into the professional game in Warrington."
