TWO Warrington amateur players achieved county honours at the weekend.

Latchford Albion’s Danny Brown made his representative debut for Lancashire in a narrow loss to Yorkshire in the Tri-Counties Series, while Woolston Rovers’ Kieran Moore did the same at under 19s level.

Albion chiefs point to Brown’s achievement of selection being even more impressive by the fact that the squad is predominantly made up from National Conference League players.

Albion coach Lee Smith said: “Danny is every coach’s dream.

“He leads from the front and his commitment and ability are an example to all.

“His high level of consistency and constant challenges to improve all aspects of his game have reaped the rewards and I couldn’t be more proud of him as a player, and also a person.”

Brown, a ball-playing loose forward who started on the bench at the weekend, is in the running for the town’s inaugural Man of Steel open-age award.

He has been with Latchford since he was a junior, is the club’s current players’ player of the year and forward of the year.

Next year he has a Test series against Russia to look forward to.

Rovers’ Moore, a member of the club’s NWML ‘Grand Slam’ side, also appeared off the bench for Lancashire under 19s.

Dave Whalley, public relations officer at Woolston, said: “He has been at the club from a very young age and the progress that he has made has been phenomenal.

“This year has seen him not only perform for the under 18s but he has stepped up and been a very pivotal member of our NWML side, helping them to win four trophies, while he also made his National Conference League debut as well. He gives his all every single time he takes to the field.”
