Warrington 29 Wilmslow 17

WARRINGTON'S unbeaten home record remains intact after leapfrogging opponents Wilmslow into fourth place in North One West.

Just three points adrift of second-placed Northwich, who travel to Wilmslow next week, Warrington will fancy their chances of turning up the heat when they visit bottom-placed St Benedicts.

Coach Andy Roberts feels his side can player better than they did though.

“We were a little loose in our kicking and some of our tackling could have been better," he said.

"Still, a bonus-point win is not to be sneezed at and we now look forward to improving when we travel to Cumbria on Saturday.”

Talented centre Kieran Hughes was at the heart of Warrington assembling a lead.

Sean Callendar, who was excellent throughout, scythed powerfully through attempted tackles before Hughes made further ground leading to Nathan Beesley's opening try converted by Ben Hockenhull.

Hughes showed he has regained some of his old pace when he assisted Steve Pilkington's try.

Wilmslow pulled a try back before Hughes struck again, breaking the cover and swerving inside to touch down and Hockenhull converted.

Tries either side of half time from Wilmslow though meant it was game on again.

Warrington tightened up their game and heavily-bandaged Steve Pilkington raced 50 yards before sending Tom Arnold away.

The game was closed out when Hughes finished off a Hockenhull break to register his 99th try in Warrington colours.

Fylde 3rd 32 Warrington 2nd 21

UNDERSTRENGTH Warrington seconds, with only one player on the bench, showed great character in holding the losing margin to just 11 points against well-drilled Fylde.

Craig Byrne stormed over twice in the first half, with Ben Dixon converting, but seven points from Fylde shortly before the break and two quickfire penalty successes put the hosts in front.

Byrne and Dixon were forced to leave the field because of injury but continued to create chances with 14 men.

Dan Griffiths took a perfect line to glide over and convert his own try but the home side had the last word when they drove over twice.

“Losing two key players and having to play most of the second half with 14 men were major factors in our loss,” said captain Shaun Yoxhall."

A SCORCHING Rorio Zheng kick-return was the turning point in Warrington’s Lancashire Cup win against Eccles.

Further tries from Joseph Entwistle, Jack Whittaker and a second try from Zheng gives the title holders some momentum going into the next round against Manchester.
