AN athlete from Warrington Triathlon Club is dreaming of Olympic glory in Paris in 2024.

Kathryn Schofield has been selected to compete in the Great Britain team at the European Triathlon Union (ETU) Sprint Distance Duathlon European Championships in Ibiza next year.

The 16-year-old has only been competing in triathlons for four years but is already tipped for stardom.Schofield qualified to represent her country after competing in her first age group European duathlon at Oulton Park where she had to run 4.5km, cycle 21km and then run a further 4.5km.

She has been selected for the six-year British triathlon development programme and completes her first training with the best athletes in the country at Loughborough in April.

Mum Denise said: “Her goal is to try and get into the Paris Olympics.

“She is very focused and takes everything in her stride.

“To be in the GB team at 16 is pretty amazing.”

The strong open-water swimmer, who is studying animal management and hopes to become a vet, wakes up at 4.30am to swim and trains in all three disciplines for around 14 hours a week.

She travels all over the country competing and is appealing to businesses for sponsorship.

“She enjoys it so much she wants to keep on going,” added Denise.

“She has made huge improvements this year. If anyone would like to sponsor her they could have their logo on her GB tri suit.”
