COACHING duo Rob Campbell and Liam Lawton have helped “bring the feel-good factor” back to Rylands Sharks as they prepare for life in the North West Men’s League.

After a troubled 2017 due to injuries, player availability and mounting fines, the Gorsey Lane outfit resigned from the National Conference League in August.

However, the club have confirmed they will play in Division Four of the North West Men’s League in 2018 under Campbell and Lawton.

Campbell says he and Lawton agreed they could not allow Rylands to be without a team next year.

He also says any players committing to the team must have the same “love” for the club as the coaching duo do.

“We did it tough this year and it looked like maybe we wouldn’t field a team for 2018,” he said.

“Liam and I spoke and both agreed we couldn’t let that happen.

“I’ve played and coached at the club too long to let that happen, it’s a historic club with a proud history.

“We want to rebuild, work our way up the leagues and earn everything we get.

“We already have some players committed to the squad from past campaigns and the under 18s I’ve coached in the past.

“We just need a group of committed lads who are going to love the club like we do.”

Lawton coached the club’s A side last year as they competed in the same division Rylands are set to join next year.

He spoke of the club being “close to his heart” as he prepares to lead the club’s revival alongside Campbell, open age chairman Mark Wilson and treasurer Vinny Yearsley.

“Next year, I am looking forward to seeing new faces along with the old as we make a good foundation for the success we as the coaching team aim to provide for the lads,” he said.

“I have always loved the club, it’s close to my heart.

“Not just because of the lasting bonds you make here, but every person who visits instantly becomes part of the Rylands family.

“There’s nothing better than the buzz from the sidelines at those key moments in the season that we share.

“Rylands is a family club. Win, lose or draw, we celebrate everyone’s achievements.”

Wilson said he believes the difficulties Rylands endured last year will stand them in good stead for the future.

The chairman also said Campbell, Lawton and Yearsley have brought a “feel-good factor” back to Gorsey Lane.

“The back end of last year was a struggle for the club. Personally, I didn’t see a great future for us,” he said.

“As a club and as a committee, we made mistakes last season.

“We were learning as we went and our focus was purely on generating the monies we needed to survive, and I think this took the enjoyment away from the club.

“Vinny, Rob and Liam have worked tirelessly to get players back into the club and get the feel-good factor back.

“I’m confident that with the new coaches and committee, we can make this club successful but the focus is on small steps and trying to improve year on year.”

Rylands are holding a registration day on Saturday, November 18, where players past, present and future can speak to the new coaches and committee about their plans.

Any prospective new players are urged to contact the club through their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.
