JAYNE Buck’s first-half double ensured a first league victory of the season for Warrington Hockey Club women’s first team.

They hosted Alderley Edge’s thirds at Priestley College in a game between two sides who had lost their opening two games, but Warrington were quicker out of the traps.

The hosts dominated early on with some excellent passing and teamwork, leading to Buck opening the scoring from a short corner.

Buck was not finished there as she weaved through the Edge defence to double her tally after excellent link-up play from Sarah Milner.

The visitors ramped up the pressure in the second half, but determined efforts from the likes of Tracy Jackson and Carrie Wright kept them off the scoresheet and ensured a 2-0 victory.

Warrington travel to Oxton’s firsts in their next Cheshire Women’s League Division One fixture on Saturday, push back 1.30pm.

Elsewhere, the men’s seconds showed great result to come from behind and earn a 2-2 draw at their Whitchurch counterparts.

The visitors took the lead through Mark Hooper’s well-struck short corner, but Whitchurch came back to lead 2-1 at the break.

However, Hooper powered home from another short corner to ensure a share of the spoils for Warrington, who welcome Denbigh’s seconds to Priestley College on Saturday, push back 2.15pm.

The women’s seconds also travelled to Whitchurch and fell to a 5-3 defeat despite a spirited late comeback.

Vicky Stout’s solo goal had cancelled out an early opener for the hosts, but Whitchurch scored three goals in quick succession to take control.

Warrington surged back and goals from Becky Miller and Amy Quayle reduced the deficit to one goal, but Whitchurch repelled their pressure and struck for a fifth time before the game ended.

The team now host Oxton’s seconds on Saturday, push back 12.45pm.

The men’s first team fell to a 3-2 home defeat to Keswick’s seconds, their first loss of the campaign, despite goals from Adam Garrod and Ben Vickers.

They move on to face Didsbury Northern’s fifths in the North West League Division Four North on Saturday, push back 2.30pm.
