Hull 19 Lymm 28

BY recording their first ever league victory over Hull, Lymm ensured their perfect start to the season continued.

Lucas Titherington, Andy Davies and Joe Denman crossed the whitewash for the Crouchley Lane outfit, who sit two points clear at the top of the Northern Premier.

Cormac Nolan added 13 points with the boot as Adam Fletcher’s side continued to set the league alight despite a late comeback from the hosts.

Lymm got the scoreboard ticking over almost immediately after Hull were ruled offside after the kick off and Nolan took the opportunity to stroke over the penalty.

The Lymm full-back did the same 10 minutes later after a high tackle, adding three points with a monstrous kick from close to half-way.

The visitors’ work at the breakdown was disrupting the hosts, forcing them to infringe regularly and Nolan was able to add another penalty.

Then, after forcing a turnover in their own 22, Denman sprinted clear of the Hull defence before handing back to Davies, who made another five metres before finding Titherington and he barrelled over despite the attentions of several defenders.

Lymm’s second try was almost a carbon-copy of their first as, from another turnover, James Kimber broke and found Davies to score right of the posts.

Despite a 23-point deficit, Hull returned for the second half with renewed intent and Callum Lancaster crossed for their first points of the game shortly after the restart.

However, Fletcher’s men found the perfect response when Denman claimed Davies’ box kick and raced away before finding Adam Bray.

The Lymm skipper was held just short but the ball was quickly made available to Davies and he sent Denman strolling over in the corner.

This looked to have put sufficient daylight between the sides, but Hull did not go down without a fight.

Just after the hour mark, home winger Steve Hitaheh beat five Lymm defenders on his way to crossing the line.

Inside the final 10 minutes, Mike Adlard then latched onto a grubber kick to bring the hosts within a converted try of snatching a draw.

Lymm were put under constant pressure but their defence held firm and they move on to a home game against winless Birkenhead Park on Saturday, kick off 3pm.
