WARRINGTON footballer David Brooks has been called up to the Wales squad for the first time.
The 20-year-old winger has caught the eye for Championship club Sheffield United this season and is included in manager Chris Coleman’s squad for their World Cup qualifying matches against Georgia and the Republic of Ireland.
In his breakthrough year, Brooks has made 10 appearances for the Blades this season, including a man-of-the-match display in their 4-2 victory over city rivals Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.
Brooks, who qualifies to play for Wales through his Welsh mother, joins experienced international James Chester, who also hails from Warrington, in Coleman’s squad.
He has made two appearances for the Welsh under 21s side but also represented England at under 20s level as recently as this summer.
