KING and Queen’s John Brown belied the wet conditions to take victory in Padgate Tennis and Bowls Club’s Floodlit competition on Sunday.
The final had been a tight affair, with Brown leading Tetley’s Martin Deakin 13-12 before putting together some fine bowling late on to take a 21-13 victory.
Brown had earlier beaten Larry Wells, Andrew Wightman and Alan Manuel to reach the final.
His 21-18 win over Manual in the last-four came after an extremely tight match which could have gone either way.
Deakin also had a very close semi-final tie, edging out Steve Jackson 21-20 after Jackson had led 19-16.
Deakin's earlier wins were against John Bradshaw and Carl Armitage.
