BEN Vickers was on target five times as the men’s first team at Warrington Hockey Club got their season off to a flying start.
They trailed Fylde 3-0 after just 10 minutes in a cup game but rallied to pull the score back to 3-2 at half time.
After the break, Matt Pettit and Doug Samuels linked up well to set Vickers up for three more goals to give Warrington a 5-4 lead.
That was how it stayed thanks to a crucial late reaction save by goalkeeper Roger Parr.
The women’s second team won their first game since promotion as they too came from behind to beat Timperley 2-1.
Molly Rudd equalised from a short corner before Jenny Fox slotted home the winner.
Sadly, the women’s first team fell to a 2-1 defeat to Macclesfield as they could not recover from conceding two early goals.
Captain Louise Unsworth pulled a goal back from a short corner, but Warrington could not find an equaliser.
