THERE was success at both ends of the age spectrum for Warrington Athletics Club at the latest Halewood 5km race on Saturday.

By finishing 50th overall in a time of 20mins 21secs, 11-year-old Jacob Cox beat his personal best by 13 seconds to win the under 13s age group.

Over 70s runner Dave Tomkins was also first in his age group and 77th overall as he stopped the clock at 23mins 13secs.

More age group success came the following day at the Northampton Half Marathon, which also incorporated the British Masters Championships.

Steve Watmough took gold in the over 55s category, completing the course in 1hour 18mins 57secs to finish 14th overall.

Mervyn Ward was the next Warrington runner to finish as he claimed over 60s bronze by clocking 1hour 27mins 12secs to finish 45th, while David Gill was close behind him in 52nd place overall with a time of 1hour 28mins 48secs.

Together, the trio combined to win British Masters gold in the over 55s age group.

Gill was running three days after coming second in his age group in the Wirral Seaside 5km race, a course he completed in 18mins 56secs.

Some of the club’s younger runners competed at Trafford Athletics Club’s medal meeting, with Meg Corker recording the fastest heat time of 11.12secs in the under 13s girls’ 70m hurdles.

In the same race, Lisa Halliday finished fifth in her heat with a new personal best time of 14.48secs and also set a new best mark of 11.83secs in the 75m.
