Woolston Rovers 28 Eastmoor Dragons 30

ROVERS head coach John Fieldhouse could not hide his frustration as his side blew a comfortable lead against promotion rivals Eastmoor Dragons.

The hosts led 26-12 in the second half at Monks Sports Club after tries from Lewis Hoarty, Chris Mellor, Ryan Brown, Chris Twigg and Glyn Roberts.

However, the visitors roared back to snatch the victory as Rovers had a last-minute 'try' to win the game ruled out for a knock-on.

"It was very disappointing to lose late on after being well in control," Fieldhouse said.

"A few crucial decisions went against us, including the referee overruling the touch judge over an offside runner.

"That proved to be the difference in the end which is difficult to accept but there is nothing we can do about that.

"We had given ourselves a great chance when leading 26-12 early in the second half but we lost control of the game.

"We still had plenty of opportunities to win but failed to take them and it proved costly."

Hoarty and Eastmoor's Kevin Brown swapped tries early on before the hosts regained the lead when Owen Hazlehurst's mazy run caused havoc and led to Mellor crashing over between the posts.

Brown scooted from dummy-half and evaded two tackles to score on the right before his 50-metre break was supported by Twigg, who crossed between the posts.

Cain McVittie hit back for Eastmoor, but Rovers still had a comfortable 20-12 lead at the break.

Roberts shot through a gap to score on the left, but three tries in nine minutes courtesy of Adrian Mulcahy, Jacob McDermott and Danny Johnson gave them the lead.

Will Chadwick landed a penalty to level the scores again, but James Slater replied in kind for Eastmoor 11 minutes from time to give them a lead they would not relinquish.
