WARRINGTON Athletics Club’s under 13s and under 15s team secured promotion in their final Youth Development League match.

By finishing ahead of their seven Northern Division West Three South rivals in Oldham on Saturday, Warrington sealed their place in the Northern Division West Two for next season.

Meg Corker was the star for the girls’ under 13s, picking up wins in the 150m, 70m hurdles and long jump.

Amelia Smithers, B 800m, Lisa Halliday, B 70m, and Olivia Chamun, B long jump, were also victorious in the under 13s age group, with Maisie Bell picking up a victory in the non-scoring 800m race.

For good measure, Corker, Smithers, Chamun and Eva Ferris teamed up to earn a Warrington win in the 4x100m relay in a time of 59.4secs.

Erik Marshall and Jacob Cox were the winners in the under 13s boys’ category, with Marshall scooping a new personal best of 5mins 7.3secs to win the A 1500m and Cox winning the B race over the same distance.

In the under 15s, Ashley Nemits won the A 300m in 43.1secs, while Emily Jackson knocked a full second off her personal best 300m time by winning the B race in 44.4secs.

Natalie Chamun was the only other under 15s girls’ winner, taking victory in the B hammer with a throw of 17.52m.

The story of the under 15s boys age group came in the shape of Warrington debutant Muhammad Ali, who was only registered the day before the match.

He was held up in traffic on the way to the venue and arrived just five minutes before his 800m race was due to start.

Ali jogged 150 metres while putting on his vest, changed into his spikes and, despite stepping on track with just moments to spare, shot into an immediate lead.

He led until 50 metres from the finish when he was overtaken but held on to finish second in 2mins 6.5secs.

Joe Taylor won the B 100m, 12.0secs, and A long jump events, 5.84m, while Jack Garner was also a double winner after victories in the A 80m hurdles, 13.8secs, and B long jump, the latter with a personal-best jump of 4.50m.

Isaac Ataullah, A 1500m in 4mins 29.secs, and Joel Birchall, B 800m in 2mins 27.0secs, were the other under 15s boys’ winners.
