LUCAS Hayes achieved a bronze medal on his debut in the North West Schools Combined Events Championships.

The Warrington Athletics Club competitor, featuring in the under 15s pentathlon, clocked up personal bests in the 80m hurdles ( 13.0secs) and the high jump (1.59m).

Combined with his long jump of 4.69m, shot (6.33m) and 800m (2mins 22.3secs) he scored 2047pts.

In the under 17s boys’ octathlon clubmate Joe Williams recorded seven personal bests and one season’s finest in a new points high that secured him eighth place.

He clocked 55.7secs over 400m, 14.9secs in 100m hurdles, 5mins 2.9secs in 1500m as well as achieving 1.77m in high jump, 4.92m in long jump, 8.56m in shot, 18.15m in discus and 21.31m in javelin for 3570pts.

Nick Jones won the over 40s age group when finishing 12th in the inaugural Alderley Edge Bypass 10k in 33mins 53secs.

David Gill collected an over 55s bronze medal when clinching 36th overall in the Joan Rhodes and Fred Norris Memorial 5k Trail Race, incorporating the Northern Masters Championships.

Gill did 20mins 5secs, while Warrington coach Phil Hicken – running for Northern Veterans – returned from injury to finish 104th (16th over 55) in 24mins 43secs.

Ten Warrington Athletics Club runners headed to Longford Stadium for the Trafford Grand Prix, incorporating British Milers’ Club events, with four achieving personal best performances.

In the 3,000m the club trio were led home by Jack Green in second place, taking almost 24½secs off his previous best time.

His 9mins 1.07secs saw him lose out on the win by 0.03secs.

In fourth place, Joe Buckley knocked more than eight seconds off his previous best with 9mins 9.35secs, while fellow under 17s runner Jordan Jones reduced his best time by 17secs when finishing ninth with 9mins 17.27secs.

In the 800m, Chris Fance was fourth in the C race of the British Milers’ Club events with 1min 57.36secs, while in the Grand Prix section under 15s runner Isaac Ataullah improved his best by 3.6secs with 2mins 15.05secs as he finished second.

Under 20s runner Luke Gamble was seventh in his race with 2mins 5.82secs, while Jack Wadsworth (under 17s) achieved third in his outing with 2mins 07.74secs.

Jack Stubbings (under 20s) was 12th in the British Milers’ Club 1,500m C race with 4mins 8.08secs while in the Grand Prix events under 20 Sam Rostron was 7th in his race with 4 minutes 16.73 seconds while under 17 Amy Nuttall was 9th in her race with 4 minutes 52.37 seconds.
