HARRIET Knowles-Jones is quickly closing in on another milestone - being the fastest 1500m runner in her family!

The 19-year-old from Lymm was in Birmingham over the weekend to take part in the British Team Trials, which would determine who would qualify for the upcoming World Championships in London.

Warrington Athletics Club’s star middle-distance runner ran two excellent races, finishing fifth in her heat in a new personal best time of 4mins 15.2secs.

Knowles-Jones’ time was quick enough to get her into the final as one of the fastest losers and she used that race to lower her personal best once again.

By stopping the clock at 4mins 14.95secs, Knowles-Jones finished in ninth place and is now closing in on the personal best time of her mother, Jayne Knowles.

A former UK champion over 1500m, Jayne’s best time is just over a second faster than Harriet’s at 4mins 13.62secs.

The race was won by two-time Olympic 1500m finallist Laura Weightman.

Knowles-Jones is fresh from representing Great Britain for the first time as a senior runner at the European Team Athletics Championships, finishing ninth in the 3000m in Lille on June 24.

She is expected to compete in the European Junior Championships, her final event as a junior, in Grosseto, Italy, later this month.

Meanwhile, Knowles-Jones was joined at the trials by Warrington clubmate James Gladman, who finished sixth in his 200m heat but his time of 21.47secs was not quick enough to allow him to progress.
