DAVID Gill returned from the North Downs Way 30km trail race with a gold medal having taken a staggering 13 minutes off his time from last year.

The Warrington Athletics Club veteran finished in 2hrs, 31mins, 58secs to take victory in the over 55s age group in Kent.

Another club victory came courtesy of James Gladman, who was Warrington’s only representative at the Trafford Grand Prix race on June 20.

He was victorious in the 200m, stopping the clock at 21.27secs.

Several of the club’s younger athletes were in action on home soil as the Cheshire Schools Minor Championships were held at Victoria Park.

For the girls, Meg Corker romped to an easy 70m hurdles victory, recording 11.1secs in both her heat and the final, while Orla Gregory took bronze in the 1500m by clocking 5mins 21.3secs.

In the boys’ events, Ben Harthill’s leap of 1.40m was enough to take gold in the high jump and Rhys Hopkins took 800m silver in 2mins 26.7secs.

Several club members finished just off the podium in fourth, including Lucy Entwistle, 200m, Maisie Bell, 800m, and Olivia Chamun, javelin.

However, those finishing in the top four could represent Cheshire in an inter-county schools match against Merseyside.

Elsewhere, Katie Lowery recorded a new personal best 1500m time of 4mins 29.23secs in finishing fourth at the British Milers Club Grand Prix on Saturday.

Andy Green has also been in action, coming home third in the over 50s age group and 17th overall at Friday’s Hollins Green 5km road race.
