Woolston Rovers 17 Clock Face Miners 16

WOOLSTON Rovers secured a last-gasp victory over Clock Face Miners in a pulsating National Conference League Division Three clash.

Rovers moved into the top four as a result of a win gained in the last minute courtesy of a drop goal from Will Chadwick.

“Team spirit, character and self belief were very evident within the side,” said head coach John Fieldhouse.

“This game showed how far we have developed over the past two seasons.

“We now believe that we can win any game even when we are behind on the scoreboard going into the last few minutes.

“Add to that the adversary of only having four backs on the field in the second half and it really does show the mental strength of the boys."

Rovers took advantage of a Clock Face sin-binning when a long pass from Conner Muir found Christian Taylor, who slid over.

Then Rovers forced an error on a kick return and Alex Smith weaved round three defenders to score a debut try, with Chris Twigg landing the conversion before adding a penalty.

By the hour mark the gap had been reduced to two points as a result of two Clock Face tries.

Two more Twigg penalty goals sandwiched a third try for the visitors before Chadwick coolly slotted over the winning one-pointer.

Man of the match Matt Clarke was well supported by Ryan Hickman, Jack Sherratt, Harry Files, Will Chadwick and Conner Muir.
