WARRINGTON-BORN footballer Tommy Smith will get the honour of leading a team out at Wembley Stadium.

The 25-year-old full-back, who is captain of Huddersfield Town, will skipper his side in the Championship play-off final against Reading on Monday, May 29.

Smith and his Terriers teammates will be playing for a place in next season’s Premier League.

After being made captain at the John Smith’s Stadium by manager David Wagner, Smith has made 46 appearances this season, scored four goals and made seven assists from right-back.

The last of those appearances came on Wednesday night as he helped the Terriers to a 4-3 penalty shoot-out victory over Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday after the two-legged play-off tie had ended 1-1 on aggregate.

Smith had been in the youth systems at Tranmere Rovers and Manchester City before joining Huddersfield in 2012.
