WARRINGTON'S batting was their downfall as they collapsed to a heavy home defeat to Davenham.

After winning the toss at Walton Lea, home skipper Richard Heaney invited the visitors to bat first and Aaron Soni gave them a great start by making an early breakthrough.

While Davenham were able to rebuild, regular wickets kept Warrington interested and they restricted the visitors to 190-6 from 50 overs.

Brad McIntosh led the way with 3-39, with Soni, Johan Els and James Rudd taking a wicket each.

However, that was as good as it got for the hosts as their batting line-up crumpled.

Only Heaney, who top-scored with 16, and Sam Houghton, 11, made it into double figures as they were dismissed for just 76, sealing a 114-run defeat.

Things were much better for the seconds, whose excellent bowling earned them a six-wicket victory over their Davenham counterparts.

After putting their hosts into bat, Warrington were on the front foot when opening bowler Chia Gadipalli took 2-10 from 12 overs.

Spin bowlers Paul Whelan, 4-20, and Rishav Manta, 3-28, then took over to skittle Davenham for just 98.

Despite losing both openers cheaply, Warrington were guided home by knocks from Tom Higham, 38, and Ashley Scholes, 24.

The thirds were beaten by Upton at Walton Lea after being restricted to 124-9 when batting first.

Billy Gilbert top-scored with 41, but Upton cruised home by five wickets despite 4-49 from 14-year-old Harry Charvill.

The fourths were on the end of a heavy loss to neighbours Appleton's thirds, who won by eight wickets.

Andy Goodfellow carried his bat on 61 as Warrington closed on 126-4, but Appleton chased the target down comfortably to win in the 26th over.

All four of the club's senior teams are in action on Saturday, with the firsts and thirds travelling to Urmston and Chester Boughton Hall respectively.

The seconds host their Urmston counterparts, while the fourths welcome neighbours Glazebury's seconds to Walton Lea.
