APPLETON athlete James Webster won the bronze medal in the 400m hurdles at the British Universities Championships held in Bedford between April 29 and May 1.

Representing the University of Bath, where he is in the final year of his degree course in international management with Spanish, James clocked a season’s best time of 53.3secs despite being badly hampered when the athlete in the next lane clattered both his own and Webster’s eighth hurdle.

He later ran the first leg for Bath’s 4x400m relay team, which took gold in 3mins 14.7secs.

Having represented Warrington Athletics Club for many years, Webster will be running for City of Liverpool this season in order to compete in the British Premier League.

Meanwhile, Nick Jones returned from injury in fine style with victory in the Halewood 5km road race on Saturday.

The Warrington Athletics Club veteran stopped the clock at 16mins 45secs.

Meanwhile, Jones’ coach Phil Hicken posted a new over 50s personal best time of 22mins 27 secs by finishing 25th in the same race.
